We left Madison around 9am, and had a brief stop after crossing the Mississippi River. Unfortunately no barges were waiting at the locks and dam, so we just took a couple of pictures and moved on. In Houston, MN, we could see all the damage caused by the flooding the last couple of days. Luckily Kjersten and Travis' place had survived, but the surrounding corn fields looked like rice fields!
At Kjersten and Travis' we were joined by Melinda, Bruce and Rachel - and of course the Samoyed dogs. Arvid fell in love with the male puppy, Kaifas, immediately. After a great bbq lunch and cake we went for a drive up to the hill behind them - to have a look at the flood damage. It is fascinating when you are not affected yourself, but a lot of farmers and others will loose money this year. The crops must be beyond salvation.
After leaving Kjersten and Travis' we had 9 hours of effective driving ahead of us before arriving in Wall, SD, at midnight. Nothing to see across the Great Plains except for huge farms, but it was a nice experience anyway.

We enjoyed having you visit Houston on Tuesday. Glad to hear that the rest of your drive went well. Be sure to let us know when Arvid is ready for his own puppy. We will fly it right over!! Or maybe I will have to bring it.
Hope the rest of your trip goes well.
Kjersten
